Vinyl acetate monomer supply tight, manufacturers take the opportunity to increase the price of new devices to step up construction

According to a new research report from SRI Consulting, as the demand for the market has grown, the operating rate of global Vinyl Acetate Monomer (VAM) devices has risen to 85% from 83% two years ago. Demand for VAM is still strong this year, but due to insufficient supply of acetic acid raw materials, the VAM plant operating rate has been limited, resulting in lower inventory levels. In this case, North American producers took the opportunity to raise prices by 7% to 8%, and some producers are seeking opportunities to raise prices again. Analysts said that in the next few years, the global VAM market looks promising.

Experts predict that the global VAM market demand before 2023 is expected to grow at an average annual rate of 2.9% to 3.2%. As most of the consumption areas are relatively mature, the fastest growing demand for VAM in the next five years will be ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer resin (EVOH), which is expected to increase at an average annual rate of 7%, but this will not generate too much demand for VAM. Big impact because EVOH accounts for less than 6% of total VAM demand.

Vinyl acetate monomer is very versatile and can be used in the production of coatings, adhesives, textiles, paper, films, and chewing gum.
